Taxation of Non-Profits

WHEREAS non profit organizations are vital to our communities; andWHEREAS many of the non profit organizations operate on limited funds; and

WHEREAS property taxes are a heavy burden on them to remain sustainable; and

WHEREAS non profit organizations approach municipal councils for tax relief; and

WHEREAS school divisions are unwilling to extend exemptions, thus levying ten’s and in some cases hundred’s of thousands of dollars in taxes;

BE IT RESOLVED that SARM be directed to work with the province to implement legislation that would make non-profit organizations exempt from taxation.
