Resolution No. 29-03A

WHEREAS, the Provincial Government instituted The Wildlife Habitat Protection Act for the purpose of maintaining existing wildlife populations and conserving vanishing native ecosystems; and

WHEREAS, amendments to the Act permitting sale of protected lands is contrary to the intent of the Act; and

WHEREAS, unregulated development of these lands adversely affects the integrity of the lands;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the province honour its commitment to conserve wildlife habitat and defer to the Act in the spirit that it was written.

Response from the Honourable Buckley Belanger, Minister of Environment:

The government is committed to conserving wildlife habitat and appreciates your support for protection of The Wildlife Habitat Protection Act lands. When the Act was created it was recognizes that there may occasionally be amendments that result in the sale of some of these lands after they have been designated. However, amendments will occur infrequently and only where there are compelling reasons to take this action.
