New Program to Help Train Future Administrators

In order to try and help address the projected need for rural municipal administrators in the future, a new program is being developed.  The Municipal Administrator Internship Program (MAIP) will provide funding for rural municipalities to train selected interns to become RM administrators.

As a pilot project, there is an opportunity for two 52-week intern placements in rural municipalities starting in November 2010.  Host rural municipalities will receive a grant of $20,000 to cost-share the intern’s salary.  Based on the success of this pilot project additional placements will be funded. The pilot project is being funded from money that was dedicated to the Communities in Transition program for 2009-10 but not used.
