Foreman / Superintendent of Public Works

Resumes are now being accepted for a Foreman / Superintendent of Public Works. This is a full-time position. The start date will be decided at the interview.

Our ideal candidate will have leadership and management responsibility for the Municipalities Public Works.  The Foreman plans, organizes, directs and evaluates the activities and R.M. personnel involved in maintenance, and repairing of the municipal road infrastructure and supporting facilities (signs, bridges, culverts, etc.).

Main Duties and Skills Profile:

  • Blade, maintain and repair all roads in a professional and safe manner.
  • Maintain and forward to employees the road maintenance schedule
  • Service machines, make and assist in repairs as qualified to do so.
  • Make sure equipment is in a safe operating condition (walk around check and operational check shall be done).
  • Keep track of gravel needs as required.
  • Inspect and maintain culverts as required.
  • Personnel authority: Placement of employees, complete Job Performances as needed, discipline employees including warnings, suspensions and dismissals, as per R.M. Policy and the Collective Agreement, and for maintaining proper records. Responsibility for informing Council on all discipline proceedings.  Keep proper written records.
  • Management representation on Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
  • Will work assist Administrator/CAO in development of the annual maintenance budget
  • Responsibility for completing all preparatory work regarding acquisition of gravel program
  • Overall responsibility for constructions and maintenance projects (road repairs, and construction, bridge repairs) completed by R.M. crew, in consultation with Consultant.
  • Responsibility for assisting and advising Consultants and engineers regarding large construction projects (i.e. those contracted out).

Education and Experience:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Class 1A
  • General mechanical ability and experience.
  • Supervisory and/or Management Experience (i.e. budgets, personnel, etc.).
  • Knowledge and experience in road maintenance with Engineering and surveying knowledge.

Rate of Pay, hours, benefits etc to be negotiated.
