WHEREAS wolves in the province are responsible for substantial financial losses to farmers because they maim or kill livestock; and

WHEREAS livestock producers experience herd losses due to wolves chasing the cattle which are subsequently unable to get bred; and

WHEREAS community pasture patrons are still responsible to pay pasture fees even if the animal perishes in the community pasture; and

WHEREAS the Wildlife Damage Compensation Program only compensates if there is a carcass present, which is seldom the case; and

BE IT RESOLVED that the Ministry of Environment grant fur block leases with use it or lose it provisions to help control wolf populations; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Ministry of Environment develop a program to control wolves on Crown Lands to reduce the likelihood of the wolves entering nearby settled areas.
