Resolution 7-02M
BE IT RESOLVED, that the legislation be changed to give rural municipalities the power and authority to establish designated truck routes within their municipal boundaries.
Response from GRAA:
A review is currently underway to address rural municipal concerns regarding the costs of road maintenance, construction and reconstruction related to damages from heavy oil truck hauling. One of the several options being explored is to allow rural municipalities to designate trucking routes. Designations would have to be done in a regional context to ensure routes connect between municipalities.
If this option is pursued, amendments will be required to The Rural Municipality Act, 1989. Any changes to the act would apply to all rural municipalities.
Area transportation planning committees could have a role in designating trucking routes on a regional basis.
