Resolution 1-03M

WHEREAS, many resolutions have been advanced from 1977 to 2003 related to the education tax issue; and

WHEREAS, the Provincial Government has been reluctant to introduce any substantive change; and

WHEREAS, present taxation on land for education purposes is grossly unfair; and

WHEREAS, the quantity of the land owned by the producer, or the commodity produced, is not related to actual land value or return for that commodity; and

WHEREAS, SARM’s lobby efforts have borne little, if any, fruit;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that SARM develop two or three possible solutions or options related to the Education Tax issue to be debated and concisely defined into one pertinent resolution at a special SARM convention, and that this resolution be submitted to the Commission on Education and the Government; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that SARM develop a publicity strategy which would inform the general public of: a. the unfairness of the present system of taxation for education, b. the present resolution being sent to the Commission and the Government; and c. the importance of sustaining the agriculture sector’s general health and viability for the benefit of all citizens of Saskatchewan.

Resolution was Tabled at the Midterm 2003 Convention.
