Standardized Transport Widths

Res #: 31-13M
Number: 31
Year: 2013
Midterm: Yes
Expired: Yes
Responses Received: No
Departments: Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI)

WHEREAS the transport width of farm equipment has been steadily increasing to the point that demands are being put forward to increase road width of secondary municipal roads; and

WHEREAS such a project would exceed the fiscal capacity of RMs;

BE IT RESOLVED that the SARM Board meet with Prairie Implement Manufacturers Association, provincial officials and any others deemed necessary to lobby for a limit on transport width that will not require road widening.

Response from Honourable Donna Harpauer

While SGI is responsible for the issuance of overweight and over-dimension permits, transport conditions or restrictions fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure. Having said this, farm equipment on municipal roads is not regulated.

Updated response from the President of SGI dated July 6, 2017
