Resolution No. 19 – 08A
RUD Program
WHEREAS approximately 35,000 kilometers of underground power distribution lines were installed in various areas in the Province under the Rural Underground Distribution Program; and
WHEREAS the above ground power poles create potential safety hazards plus the cost of removing the weeds from around the poles;
BE IT RESOLVED that SaskPower reinstate the Rural Underground Distribution Program
Response from Honourable Ken Cheveldayoff, Minister of Crown Corporations
Response from SaskPower
For more than 20 years, all new primary overhead power lines (25,00 volt and below) have veen built in road allowances, and all new rural services are installed by burying the primary (high voltage) or secondary (low voltage) service within the farm yard or work area. SaskPower estimates the cost to bury other farm lines at more than $600 million, which is cost prohibitive.
