Resolution No. 26 – 07M
Review of the Navigable Waters Act
WHEREAS the Navigable Waters Act (NWA) was passed into law more than 120 years ago when one of the main modes of transportation across Canada was by water;
WHEREAS the cost and efficiency of building modern roads and bridges is being severely affected by the NWA; and
WHEREAS the NWA which was originally enacted to facilitate efficient movement of goods and people has now become an impediment to the process;
BE IT RESOLVED that the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities request a formal review of the Navigable Waters Act to begin the process of amending the legislation to make the Act more relevant to the present time; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the review process include an opportunity for municipalities and organizations, such as SARM to make formal presentations.
