Resolution No. 14 – 08A
Removal of Demand Meters
BE IT RESOLVED that the Provincial Government remove all demand meters from recreation facilities in smaller communities in Saskatchewan.
Response from Honourable Ken Cheveldayoff, Minister of Crown Corporations
Response from SaskPower
The demand meter is intended to measure the peak demand (or highest amount of power) that a customer has used during a billing period. SaskPower must build and maintain sufficient facilities – transformers, power lines, and generating capacity – to meet the peak needs of all its customers. Removal of the demand meters would discourage efficient operation of these facilities, and would require increases to the energy portion of rates so that SaskPower could recover the costs of providing service.
