WHEREAS occupational health and safety regulations require employers to ensure that only trained and competent operators are permitted to operate powered mobile equipment (PME); and

WHEREAS training must meet specific requirements outlined in Section 154 and Table 14.1 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations; and

WHEREAS Finding PME trainers who are certified – is difficult, expensive, and time consuming; and

WHEREAS given the fact that all branches of rural municipal governments need a clear and concise training skill level mandate to be reached, a safe environment to do so, as well as an industry standard skill level to be met.

BE IT RESOLVED that SARM establish a Power Mobile Equipment Training and Licensing body who can train workers for rural municipal specific equipment in a comprehensive manner; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED if establishing a Power Mobile Equipment Training and Licensing body proves difficult, may SARM seek out a current licensing body to which it may receive group pricing, and shorter wait times.
