POP Resolution 1 – 07M
Stray Animals Act

WHEREAS The Stray Animals Act does not currently allow cost recovery for the use of trucks, quads, horses or snowmobiles to round up stray animals; and

WHEREAS to efficiently round up strays, use of such aids is often necessary;

BE IT RESOLVED that The Stray Animals Act be amended to allow the recovery of all costs incurred for rounding up stray animals.

Response from Honourable Bob Bjornerud, Minister of Agriculture

This resolution calls fro changes to the Act that would provide for full recovery costs related to rounding-up stray animals.  I am advised that the fee structure for cost recovery related to handling stray animals is found in The Stray Animals Regulations.  Improving and updating regulations, particularly to allo for recovery of expenses involved in controlling strays, is certainly and issue that the Ministry of Agriculture is willing to discuss with SARM.

Although The Stray Animals Act will not be open for amendments during this legistlative session, I can ensure that amendments to the Regulations are certainly being considerd for the near future.
