WHEREAS the Prime Minister of Canada has announced a carbon price of $10/ton C02 to be implemented in 2018; and

WHEREAS rural municipalities are opposed to a federally mandated carbon pricing system imposed on the Province of Saskatchewan and, in effect, its residents; and

WHEREAS  a carbon price will negatively affect the agriculture sector, school boards, health regions and RM ratepayers; and

WHEREAS the Government of Saskatchewan has offered viable solutions to mitigate climate change in the Climate Change White Paper; and

WHEREAS these made in Saskatchewan solutions include carbon capture and sequestration, zero-till farming and investments in renewable energy sources.

BE IT RESOLVED that SARM defend the interests of municipalities and their ratepayers against the imposition of a carbon pricing system.
