WHEREAS the provincial government and SARM have been promoting the Rural Crime Watch program to provide new eyes and ears to the RCMP;
WHEREAS it has been proven that these organizations have helped the RCMP apprehend persons involved in criminal activities in the rural areas of the province;
WHEREAS Rural Crime Watch organizations need to make people aware that they are in an area where they are being watched by installing signs along highways and major roads;
WHEREAS Rural Crime Watch signs can only be installed along the back slope of provincial highways which does not make them as noticeable;
BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the provincial government to allow Rural Crime Watch signs to be installed along the top edge of highways the same as the traffic guidance signs are.

MHI plans to re-examine its current policy regarding rural crime watch signs. The review will attempt to balance between minimizing driver distraction and the ability to observe the signs as part of the driving task. MHI fully supports the need to promote public safety and protection. As part of the review, MHI will consult SARM.
