Resolution No. 23-1-02A (Emergent)
WHEREAS, the Permit Office may make recommendations with regards to routing of overweight loads; and
WHEREAS, these routes may consist of travel on municipal roads over RM bridges; and
WHEREAS, the Permit Office checks with Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation's Bridge Branch to ensure bridges located on numbered highways will support the loads in question but do not check the load limits of bridges on municipal roads; and
WHEREAS, the information relating to load limits on municipal bridges is not maintained at the RM offices but is available at the Bridge Branch;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Permit Office require Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation's Bridge Branch to evaluate all bridges located on the route designated under an Overweight Permit to ensure that all bridges and drainage structures will support the weights involved.
Response From the Honourable Mark Wartman:
Bridge Services cannot provide an evaluation for bridges on the municipal system unless current information is available on the condition of the bridges.
For those single trip permit requests that involve municipal bridges, the municipality may make a request to Bridge Services through the Municipal Bridge Engineer for a recommendation as to whether to allow the overload. The Municipal Bridge Engineer will make his recommendation using the available information in the department's files.
