Resolution No. 19 – 07M
Inter-hospital Transfers

WHEREAS The Action Plan for Saskatchewan Health Care (2001) committed the province to reducing the cost of inter-hospital transfers as resources allowed; and

WHEREAS Programs that offset the cost of road ambulance services which include The Senior Citizens’ Ambulance Assistance Program, Supplementary Health Benefits and Family Health Benefits for low income residents, and Northern Medevac for emergency medical evacuation for northern residents have seen resources allocated elsewhere resulting in no reductions having taken place to date;

BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby Saskatchewan Health to cover the cost of inter-hospital transfers for all Saskatchewan Residents.

Response from Honourable Don McMorris, Minster of Health

It is our goal to improve Saskatchewan's health care system and we value the input of SARM in this regard.  Clearly, our main priorities include reducing waiting lists and recruiting and retaining doctors, nurses and other health care providers.  We will also undertake a Patient First Review of the health care system with input from health care stakeholders to improve front-line care for patients and direct health care dollars away from bureaucracy to front-line care.

As we move forward in making improvements to our health care system, the views of the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities and other stakeholders will be given full consideration.
