ILO Road Maintenance Agreements

WHEREAS, intensive livestock operations (including the offices and feedmill operations) are exempt from taxation in rural municipalities; and

WHEREAS, intensive livestock operations result in increased traffic, in particular heavy traffic, on municipal roads; and

WHEREAS, there are no standard or template agreements for road maintenance between rural municipalities and intensive livestock operations in the province;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Clearing the Path Committee of SARM review and make recommendations for a provincial standard or template road maintenance agreement for intensive livestock operations, in consultation with appropriate government departments, rural municipalities, and industry representatives and that the committee’s report be presented at the November 2007 SARM Midterm Convention.
