WHEREAS the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure has advised that highway rest stop areas are being closed and lands put up for disposal, as they do not form part of the highways operational mandate; and

WHEREAS the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure has operated these highways rest stops for a number of years; and

WHEREAS these rest stops form an important safety purpose for vehicle operators on the Provincial Highways system by providing an area to rest; and

WHEREAS the highway rest stops areas are used by visitors to Saskatchewan;

BE IT RESOLVED that the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure reconsider the closure of highway rest stops along major highways in the province and to consider turning the control and care of the highway rest stops to Tourism Saskatchewan.
