Game Farm Licensing Regulations
Res #: 13-09A
Number: 13
Year: 2009
Midterm: No
Expired: Yes
Responses Received: No
Departments: Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture
WHEREAS Section 13(b) of The Wildlife Regulations, 1981, provides that “no person shall hunt any wildlife within 500 meters of a building, stockade or corral that is occupied by persons or livestock”; and
WHEREAS a game farm in an area limits the land use of adjacent property owners including their ability to develop a residence within the 500 meters;
BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the Provincial Government to change the regulations so that municipalities and adjacent property owners are consulted before issuing a license to operate a game farm in an area.
Response from Honourable Bob Bjornerud, Minister of Agriculture:
The Ministry of Agriculture supports the development of the domestic game farm industry. The Ministry has been made aware of concerns regarding the lack of notification when the Ministry receives a game farm license application.
To address these concerns, the Ministry has amended the domestic game farm license application to include a statement that advises the applicant to contact their rural municipality (RM) regarding its land use bylaws prior to establishing the game farm operation.
A review of The Domestic Game Farm Animal Regulations has been initiated, and the Ministry will proceed with a full consultation process in due course.
