Funding of Surfaced Roads

WHEREAS, rural gravel roads with high volumes of heavy truck traffic have been identified as a leading cause of hazardous dust emissions; and

WHEREAS, rural gravel road dust emissions are directly linked to air quality, environmental, and safety issues; and

WHEREAS, rural gravel road dust emissions are directly linked to serious respiratory diseases and premature deaths;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that SARM recognize the critical importance of surfaced roads in rural municipalities and support the inclusion of surfaced road projects as a vital component of any federal and/or provincial road grant program.
