WHEREAS funding for Saskatchewan’s watersheds has not increased since 2011; and
WHEREAS the watershed groups work with the majority of rural municipalities in the province and deliver environmental programs to ratepayers; and
WHEREAS the watersheds use provincial funding to gain access to federal programs and secure federal funding; and
WHEREAS the Government of Manitoba has recently announced an increase of $150,000 per watershed;
BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the Provincial Government to increase funding to the watersheds so they may continue this valuable work and to enable them to be developed as the primary resource for landowners seeking advice regarding the new drainage regulations.

The Water Security Agency continues to work with the Watershed Stewardship groups within the province. Having a regional presence that encompasses all stakeholders is very important to creating solutions to these complex issues. Several Watershed Stewardship groups are helping to implement drainage pilot projects under the new Agricultural Water Management Strategy, This beneficial working relationship between WSA and the Watershed Stewardship groups is continually being assessed as we move forward in meeting our water management mandate.
