WHEREAS the passage of the federal omnibus budget bill introduced changes to Employment Insurance (EI) legislation which would categorize seasonal municipal employees as high frequency users; and

WHEREAS high frequency users will be subject to EI access criteria which, over a 3 year period, will make access to EI extremely difficult, thus increasing costs for rural municipalities;

BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the Provincial Government to ensure that recent changes to the Employment Insurance legislation will not result in higher costs or employee retention problems for municipalities.
