Resolution No. 8-03M

WHEREAS, the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) includes flood as a cause of disaster; and

WHEREAS, drought and grasshoppers can be just as disastrous; and

WHEREAS, crop insurance programs are not helpful in that most springs are wet enough to get pasture and hay land started and producers must decide by March 31st if they wish to enroll; and

WHEREAS, crop insurance does not allow farmers the option of cutting crops for green feed in drought years; and

WHEREAS, grasshoppers which generally follow drought significantly reduce production;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that SARM lobby Saskatchewan Crop Insurance to make those changes necessary to allow farmers to recover crop as greenfeed in drought situations.
