WHEREAS numerous thin membrane roads were assigned by the Department of Highways to be maintained by municipalities; and
WHEREAS damage occurred by increased trucking commodities amount to thousands of dollars per kilometer to repair and most municipalities are unable to properly maintain these thin membrane roads because of a lack of equipment and escalating repair costs; and
WHEREAS to decommission or repair these roads in an environmentally friendly manner carries an estimated cost of $100,000.00 per kilometer;
BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the Provincial and Federal Governments to assist municipalities when the roads are being decommissioned or repaired.
