WHEREAS the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) has a Beaver Control Program as funded through the Federal and Provincial Governments for which numerous municipalities and highways programs are benefiting; and

WHEREAS the beaver population seems to be growing even with the many attempts to reduce the population and this problem is affecting roads, pastures, agriculture crops and residential areas through the flooding due to the beavers damming.

BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the Federal and Provincial government to provide additional funding and resources in assisting in the control and removal of beavers.

Funding for the Beaver Control Program is provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and the federal government under the Canadian Agricultural Partnership in the amount of $450,000 for this program year (April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021).

To date, more than $283,000 in rebates to be paid have been accumulated. This indicates that all available funds have not been accessed. As this program is currently under-utilized, we would appreciate any advice from SARM on how to increase awareness of these programs and their utilization. I encourage you to work with our Ministry technical experts and the program oversight committees to increase the adoption of this program.
