Resolution No. 10 -07M
Beaver Bounty
WHEREAS due to an increase in the beaver population there are resulting expenses incurred to private and municipal property;
BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the Provincial Government to establish a beaver bounty.
Response from Honourable Nancy Heppner, Minister of Environment
The Ministry of Environment is not considering a bounty on beavers. From past experience with the bounty system on coyotes, the ministry has determined that this method of population control is expensive and ineffective. Bouties are also subject to wide scale abuse with animals turned in from outside target areas.
Individual rural municipalities (RM) may establish a bounty on beavers within their own municipal boundary to be funded by the RM. Establishment of such a bounty may be done by order of the RM Council.
