Resolution No. 18-03M

WHEREAS, there is presently no system to protect individual cattle producers selling animals through an auction mart against the bankruptcy of the auction mart as the bonds which are carried by the auction marts are grossly inadequate;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Provincial Government be lobbied to establish a check-off to protect individual cattle producers against auction mart bankruptcy.

Response From the Honourable Clay Serby, Minister of Saskatchewan Agriculture, Food and Rural Revitalization:

SAFRR have been consulting with industry through the Livestock Inspection Services Advisory Board on issues regarding the marketing of livestock. One of the suggestions includes establishing a Livestock Patrons Fund, such as exists in Alberta. The merits of increased bond levels and of a producer levy are being closely investigated and discussed. The Government of Saskatchewan welcomes the recommendations of your association and will ensure they are considered as we work towards providing better financial security in the marketing of livestock.
