Departments: Matters Pertaining to SARM
WHEREAS SARM bylaws currently require board members to resign their position prior to seeking nomination in a provincial or federal election; and
WHEREAS the current requirement may discourage board members from seeking nominations; and
WHEREAS it is to the benefit of rural Saskatchewan to have provincial and federal elected officials that have experience and knowledge of rural municipal issues; and
WHEREAS a resolution was passed at the 2011 SARM Midterm requesting that changes be investigated to allow board members to seek nomination in federal and provincial elections without resigning;
BE IT RESOLVED that Section 3(f) of SARM Bylaw No. 2 be rescinded and replaced with the following:
3 (f) A Director or other official of the Association shall resign from his/her office in the Association upon:
a) seeking an elected position within the Association, other than the position he/she currently holds.
b) receiving the nomination as a candidate for a political party to run as a member of the Legislature or Parliament.
