The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) is pleased with the announcement by the provincial and federal governments that the deadline for project completion under the 2008 Farm and Ranch Water Infrastructure Program (FRWIP) has been extended by one year to November 1, 2010.
“Many farmers and municipalities were facing quite a bit of pressure to get their projects completed before the original deadline at the beginning of November but this extension allows them some breathing room, and we really appreciate that” said SARM President David Marit.
The FRWIP was developed to assist producers in mitigating the effects of drought by ensuring long-term water supplies and is cost shared by the provincial and federal governments under AgriRecovery. The program was expanded province-wide in 2009.
“More than $29 million dollars was allocated for the FRWIP program in 2008 which shows that there is a real need for this kind of infrastructure program and we remain grateful that it was introduced because it has helped so much,” said President Marit.
