For Immediate Release
The Saskatchewan Government recently announced the re-instatement of the Channel Clearing Financial Assistance Program for rural municipalities, which funds 50 per cent of the cost of removing brush and other debris from natural water channels.
“Given the economic burden and general inconvenience excess water has put on many RMs this year, this financial assistance is certainly welcome news,” said SARM President David Marit. “SARM is pleased the provincial government is again committed to this initiative and expect funding to remain in place through next spring as well.”
Last year, 65 RMs in Saskatchewan accessed over $110,000 in financial support from the program. Those funds generated almost a quarter of a million dollars to help maintain the drainage systems servicing agriculture land. The Channel Clearing Assistance Program for Rural Municipalities financially assists municipalities with the removal of brush and obstructions in natural water channels and maintenance of existing drainage ditches under the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority.
