WHEREAS the ramifications of the clubroot disease affect surrounding land, equipment purchases, agriculture-related businesses and future generations of farmers;
WHEREAS these ramifications are numerous and beyond measure;
WHEREAS the value production and/or sale of the land is much more significant than the penalty of $500.00 for not reporting the disease;
BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the Ministry of Agriculture to increase the $500.00 maximum fine for those that do not report clubroot to the municipality to 25 per cent of the land assessment in order to keep the reporting of clubroot controlled, data up to date for surrounding farmers and businesses and to avoid the spread of clubroot to surrounding land.

Our Government appreciates the importance of preventing and managing clubroot disease, and by declaring it as a pest under The Pest Control Act, rural municipalities have the authority to pass bylaws to prevent, control or destroy clubroot. If a review of The Pest Control Act, is undertaken, the current maximum fine of $500 would be considered as part of that process.
