WHEREAS rural municipalities (RM) provide fire protection and emergency response to motor vehicle collisions;
WHEREAS the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure has identified certain intersections as high collision areas;
WHEREAS the costs of providing the equipment and training for fire protection and emergency response are paid by the RM’s residents through taxation;
BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the provincial government and Saskatchewan Government Insurance to provide funding for the purchase of and training on the use of specialized equipment, such as the Jaws of Life.

Emergency Management and Fire Safety (EMFS) has a cache of response equipment that is available for use to all fire departments, first responders, municipalities and communities in Saskatchewan. EMFS also offers comprehensive evaluation and certification programs as well as training to all fire departments including full-time career, paid on call and volunteer firefighters at no cost in the following areas:
- 472 Awareness and Operations – Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials Incidents;
- 1001 Level 1 and 2 – Firefighting Professional Qualifications;
- 1002 – Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications:
- Apparatus Equipped with Fire Pump; and
- Apparatus Equipped with Aerial Device;
- 1021 Level 1 and 2 – Professional Qualifications for Fire Officer;
- 1033 – Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator;
- 1041 Level 1 and 2 – Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications;
- Incident Command System – all levels;
- Wildfire training; and
- Ice rescue training.
