WHEREAS dealing with contaminated waste is a necessity with the oil and gas activity in southern Saskatchewan;

WHEREAS there are strict regulations as to how this contaminated waste is to be properly disposed of, which entails the hauling of the contaminated materials by truck over great distances and possibly through many municipalities to a licensed disposal facility, which has been designed, approved and is monitored by the provincial government to handle such waste;

WHEREAS currently there is no legislation forcing these trucking companies to tarp their trailers and ensure that their end gates are sealed while in transport to and from a disposal facility, which raises health and environmental concerns with the potential of further contamination;

BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the provincial government to make tarping and sealing of vessels containing contaminated waste mandatory while in transport to and from waste disposal facilities to reduce the risk for further environmental contamination.
