WHEREAS oil and gas facilities throughout southeast Saskatchewan utilize flare stacks to burn off excess gas;
WHEREAS some of these sites have either no or poorly maintained equipment to prevent sudden bursts of pressure buildup that could expel burning gas into the surrounding environment, which may result in the potential burning of surrounding cultivated land, pasture land and personal property;
BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the provincial government to introduce enhanced regulations to operate flare stacks or to eliminate flare stacks all together.
