WHEREAS the Saskatchewan Scrap Tire Corporation has facilitated the clean-up of scrap tires from 227 RMs in the province at a cost of $5.34 million;
WHEREAS two areas: Saskatoon – Meadow Lake – Lloydminster; and Regina – Moose Jaw – Weyburn; a total of 69 RMs have not had the collection done in their areas;
WHEREAS the financial losses experienced by Saskatchewan Scrap Tire Corporation were partially due to program changes directed by the Ministry of Environment;
WHEREAS the Tire Stewardship of Saskatchewan Inc. has taken over program operations from the Saskatchewan Scrap Tire Corporation;
BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the Ministry of Environment to provide funding assistance to the Tire Stewardship of Saskatchewan Inc. so that the collection and clean-up of tires may be completed in the remaining RMs.
