WHEREAS the current deadline for nominations for Board elections as provided for in Governance Bylaw 2016-01 is during the annual convention;

WHEREAS the current timing creates uncertainty for candidates and members, along with increased administrative effort and costs;

WHEREAS The Local Government Election Act, 2015 provides for a nomination deadline for local government elections 35 days prior to the election date;

BE IT RESOLVED that the nomination deadline for Board elections and special elections, other than special elections required pursuant to clause 9 of Governance Bylaw 2016-01, be 35 days prior to the date of the election;

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the amendments required to Governance Bylaw 2016-01 to accommodate this change as detailed in Appendix A be approved and incorporated into Governance Bylaw 2016-01.

The SARM Governance Bylaw has been updated to include the nomination deadline for Board elections and special elections, other than special elections required pursuant to clause 9 of Governance Bylaw 2016-01, be 35 days prior to the date of the election.
