WHEREAS Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation (SCIC) advised customers to increase their wet acre coverage; and
WHEREAS customers were told that SCIC would base their claims on the declared wet acres;
BE IT RESOLVED that Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation base the wet acre claims on what the customers declared for 2013.
Response from Lyle Stewart, Minister of Agriculture
The resolution calls on the Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation (SCIC) to adjust unseeded acreage claims for 2013 based on acres declared by the producer. SCIC adjusts claims to ensure unseeded acreage payments are made on normally cultivated acres and not on acres that are normally wet each spring. SCIC investigated the situation with adjusters to determine the facts of disputed claims from the standpoint of providing customer service in accordance with sound policy and procedures. SCIC endeavored to ensure re-inspection or claim review steps were implemented in the short-term to attempt to resolve customer complaints. SCIC reviewed approximately 170 claims, and received numerous customer comments stating that after re-inspection they better understood and were satisfied with how their claims were completed. In the event the issue was not resolved, customers were encouraged to file a formal appeal.
