WHEREAS the beaver population is quite excessive in many regions of the province; and

WHEREAS the province implemented a Beaver Control Program, administered by SARM for municipalities with beaver problems in 2011;

BE IT RESOLVED that the province and SARM continue with the Beaver Control Program for 2012.

Response from Honourable Bob Bjornerud, Minister of Agriculture: 

Funding for the Beaver Control Program for 2012-2013 was announced on March 14, 2012. Continued issues with flooded agricultural land caused by increased beaver populations in some regions of the province made a case for inclusion of the program under Growing Forward for 2012-13. A budget of $500,000 is being provided and SARM will again be administering the program for rural municipalities and First Nations Bands.
