WHEREAS the council of the RM of Dufferin #190 is concerned about the lack of Provincial legislation governing hunt farms using wild boar for hunt species; and

WHEREAS there is a great potential for negative impact to the environment as well as an imminent danger to public safety within municipalities where this may occur; and

WHEREAS there is already evidence that feral wild boar populations are causing losses to agriculture producers and causing public safety concerns in other regions of the province;

BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the Provincial Government to provide for legislation banning wild boar game farm hunting in the Province and provide for more stringent controls and regulations for wild boar producers.

Response from Honourable Bob Bjornerud, Minister of Agriculture: 

Currently, The Stray Animals Regulations have lawful fencing requirements for all livestock species, and authority to destroy escaped animals including wild boar if they are a threat to persons or property. Rural municipalities (RMs) are responsible for administering and enforcing these Regulations. The Ministry of Agriculture acknowledges the need to control the proliferation of feral wild boar as they can be a threat to persons, property and crops. The Ministry has established a Feral Wild Boar Control Program with funding of $50K per year for SARM to administer the program. The Ministry will be reviewing The Domestic Game Farm Animal Regulations in 2012, and will consider your suggested changes.
