WHEREAS the SARM Property Self-Insurance Program currently contains a provision for the reimbursement of fire department service fees up to $25,000 when the fire department is called to save or protect insured property;

WHEREAS program participants have expressed an interest in revising this coverage by removing the condition that the fire department be called to save or protect insured property;

WHEREAS it is in the interest of all program participants, as insurers, to place conditions and limitations on coverage in order to prevent a situation where claims exceed premiums; and

WHEREAS the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure covers the cost of fire department service fees to a maximum of $2,000 for fighting a fire originating in a highway right of way when the cause of the fire is unknown;

BE IT RESOLVED that SARM amend the Property Self-Insurance Program by adding coverage for fire department service fees to a maximum of $2,000 per occurrence where 1) the fire results from the RM’s actions; or 2) the fire begins on the RM’s property or road allowance and the cause of the fire is unknown.
