Disaster Assistance Payments
WHEREAS many RMs have been experiencing weather disaster situations, in some cases several years back to back; andWHEREAS in many RMs the costs are accumulating;
BE IT RESOLVED that the Provincial Government indicate what level of help can be expected by the RM that has applied and what is the time frame for payment.

With regard to municipalities that have experienced back to back disasters, a number of measures have been taken to assist municipalities manage this additional burden. The Government of Saskatchewan implemented a supplemental grant program to ease the financial burden of claim deductibles applied under PDAP on municipal claims for damages related to weather-related events for the three-year period 2005 through 2007. To-date, the provincial government has provided approximately $1.8 Million in additional grants to help lessen this financial pressure. Corrections, Public Safety and Policing (CPSP) staff have also worked with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and the Saskatchewan Municipal Board to assist municipalities explore their options for alternative financing.
CPSP staff make every effort to accomodate each PDAP claim to the fullest extent possible. Ministry staff work directly with municipal officials to gather required information and then prepare the claim, so that payments can be made as quickly as possible. Additional staff have been hired to further expedite the process and the PDAP database software has been updated to meet the increased volumes. If there are concerns regarding any specific submitted claim, ministry staff are very helpful in resolving any difficulties.
