The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) is pleased with the province’s amendments to the trespass legislation. SARM members have passed multiple resolutions related to trespassing over the years and the association has advocated that individuals need to receive express permission from a landowner before they access private land.
“Trespassing presents a threat not only to feelings of personal safety, but also to the livelihood of farmers and ranchers,” stated SARM President Ray Orb. “We believe that tightening rural trespass laws will help rural landowners and farmers protect their livestock and crops while increasing the sense of security and safety for their families.”
By ensuring that private property is deemed as “no trespassing” until permission is obtained from the landowner and/or tenant, we are affording rural landowners the same right as urban landowners.
SARM continues to be the voice of rural municipalities and champions the value of rural Saskatchewan.
