Job Description:
- Employment Term: This is a full-time seasonal position from April to November.
- During the months of December to March, working hours are reduced, with a guaranteed minimum of 115 hours per month.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license and provide his/her own transportation.
- Have, or be willing to be trained, knowledge and experience operating the Caterpillar joy-stick controls on a motor grader.
- Have, or be willing to be trained, a working knowledge of road maintenance and snow removal on roads.
- Have a basic mechanical aptitude and knowledge, or be willing to be trained, of and/or experience servicing and operating municipal grader, with the ability to troubleshoot potential equipment issues.
- Must be dependable when working independently with minimum or without supervision.
- Must be reliable to perform additional duties.
- Must be willing to perform work in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, cold, heat, and humidity.
- Demonstrate professionalism.
- Multi-task and set priorities effectively.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Grader Operator include, but are not limited to:
- Adhere to all Policies, Procedures and Codes.
- Maintain and repair all roads on a priority basis as required by road conditions.
- Operate machinery on roads in a professional, courteous, and safe manner.
- Carry out duties which may include general work around the shop, yard, and building, in addition to specific equipment operation tasks.
- Service the machinery, make and assist in repairs as qualified to do so.
- Ensure equipment is in a safe operating condition (walk around check/operational check must be done and daily equipment inspection reports must be completed).
- Ensure engine is properly warmed up before operating.
- Contact the Reeve or the RM Office in the case of a major breakdown.
- Keep machine, equipment, shop and yard clean and in order.
- Occasional custom work may be required.
- Be willing to follow directions.
- Address Council members, ratepayers, and fellow employees in a reasonable manner and with patience and respect.
- Keep detailed time sheets.
- Must ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards and use personal protection equipment.
- Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
- Participate as a vital team member and contribute towards the success of the organization.
- Operate equipment for prolonged periods – usually sitting.
Probationary Period:
- Probationary period will be 3 months from the employment starting date.
The Municipal Office and Shop are located in Ituna, SK. Applicants must hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license. Having a basic mechanical aptitude and prior knowledge of and experience operating motor graders would be an asset. A Power Mobile Equipment operator competency certificate would also be considered an asset to the applicant. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and be willing to perform additional duties from time to time, as directed by the Reeve. Wages will be based on experience and qualifications. The RM offers a comprehensive benefits package including the Municipal Employees Pension Plan.
