The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) is encouraged by the Government of Saskatchewan’s recognition of some key concerns for rural municipalities as well as its pandemic response and economic recovery as outlined in yesterday’s Speech from the Throne.
We appreciate the province’s commitment to continue the fight against the federal carbon tax while implementing its Prairie Resilience climate change plan. The government’s commitment to support the agriculture industry through investments in research and innovation while seeking new markets for Saskatchewan products is also welcome news for rural producers. SARM applauds the province’s commitment to farm support programs while recognizing that more needs to be done to revise the AgriStabilty program to improve relevancy in the support of the province’s agriculture producers.
SARM acknowledges the importance of investing infrastructure to drive growth and look forward to provincial commitments to take greater control of our trade relationships abroad and promoting Saskatchewan exports.
“As municipal leaders we understand the need to work together,” stated SARM President Ray Orb. “The road to recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic will take a collaborative approach from all levels of government. We strongly encourage all residents to do their part in following provincial guidelines to help limit the spread, so we can focus on recovery.”
SARM champions the value of rural Saskatchewan and is the leading voice representing the collective best interests of rural municipalities.
