The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) is encouraged by the Government of Saskatchewan’s recognition of some key concerns for rural municipalities in yesterday’s Speech from the Throne.
We appreciate the mutual understanding of a clear need to connect rural Saskatchewan with the rest of the world. This is acknowledged by Wireless Saskatchewan’s initiative to invest up to $50 million to further increase coverage in rural areas.
The government’s continued support of Saskatchewan Crime Watch is also welcome news. SARM has played a key role in advocating for crime prevention tools such as the Saskatchewan Crime Watch Advisory Network, Rural Crime Watch and the Protection and Response Team and is encouraged to see its commitment to reducing crime.
SARM lends its voice in support of our agriculture industry and we appreciate the province’s commitment to fight the carbon tax. We commend the province’s goal to increase crop production and agriculture value-added exports over the next 10 years.
“As municipal leaders we understand the effort required to effect change,” stated SARM President Ray Orb. “As an association we are committed to advancing priorities for our membership to create a strong and diverse rural Saskatchewan.”
SARM champions the value of rural Saskatchewan and is the leading voice representing the collective best interests of rural municipalities.
