SARM and SUMA to hold Inter-municipal Conference

The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) and the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) will be holding their first annual Inter-municipal Conference on November 28 and 29, 2012 at the Ramada Hotel and Convention Centre in Regina.

The Conference is meant to be an extension of the work currently undertaken by the Municipal Capacity Development Program (MCDP) to build partnerships between municipalities across the province. The MCDP was established in 2006 as a partnership between SARM, SUMA, and the Ministry of Government Relations to promote growth and cooperation through municipal partnerships. “With so many demands on municipalities today, cooperation is a must to ensure growth is sustainable in our province,” says SARM President, David Marit.

The Conference agenda includes presentations on housing, regional planning, economic development, water and waste water, and solid waste. “The goal is to provide municipalities an opportunity to network with each other, share the challenges they face, and learn about regional solutions they can implement,” says President Allan Earle of SUMA.

For the complete Conference agenda please visit the MCDP website at www.municipalcapacity.ca. Media is invited to attend.
