SARM Convention Underway in Saskatoon

SARM’s 102nd Annual Convention is underway with over 1700 attendees at TCU Place in Saskatoon.

This morning, the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, His Honour Dr. Gordon Barnhart, presented the Award for Outstanding Service to Rural Saskatchewan to Robert G. Webb of Wynyard, former reeve of the RM of Big Quill No. 308.

“SARM is very proud to be involved with this prestigious award,” said SARM President David Marit. “Mr. Webb is a truly deserving candidate and we thank him for his many years of service to rural Saskatchewan.”

Carol Skelton, Minister of National Revenue, addressed delegates in the afternoon. She reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to helping municipalities and ensuring the quality of life in rural Saskatchewan is one of the best in the country.

Harry Van Mulligen, provincial Minister of Government Relations, praised the leadership of the SARM board, RM leaders and the Clearing the Path Committee in his address. The minister also recognized current infrastructure demands in rural areas and thanked local leaders for their support and cooperation.

Leader of the Official Opposition, Brad Wall also addressed delegates on the afternoon of the March 7, and focused on education, agriculture, infrastructure, and a renewed vision for rural Saskatchewan.

Tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m., the Premier will give an address followed by the bear pit session with the provincial cabinet. Delegates will also participate in a panel session on the future of rural K-12 education at 1:30 p.m. on March 14. Elections for association president will take place on the morning of March 15.
