WHEREAS a large portion of motor vehicle collisions on provincial/federal highways are in  no way connected to local municipalities; and

WHEREAS the closest municipal volunteer fire departments are not always the first  responders to motor vehicle collisions; and

WHEREAS there are instances when it is not clear who ought to be the first responder and  that becomes a public safety issue; and

WHEREAS providing motor vehicle collision services and/or assistance to STARS is  extremely expensive; and

WHEREAS municipalities are expected to provide these services on limited revenue  streams and receive inadequate compensation for services rendered;

BE IT RESOLVED that SARM work with SUMA to define boundaries for municipal fire  departments; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that SARM, SUMA and Saskatchewan Government Insurance  work together to ensure that call out rates incorporate traffic flow, kilometers of highway  traveled by fire departments and provide compensation for STARS assistance.
