WHEREAS municipalities in Saskatchewan are currently acquiring land in adjacent
municipalities for the purpose of long term future growth; and
WHEREAS acquiring land outside of their municipal boundaries for future growth has the
potential to halt economic development in that municipality; and
WHEREAS the Province of Alberta has legislation regarding acquisition of land that
requires the consent of the municipal government within whose boundaries the land is
located;
BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to implement
legislation similar to the Province of Alberta regarding the acquisition of land outside
municipal boundaries in order to encourage a transparent working relationship with
other jurisdictions to promote growth and economic prosperity for all municipalities.
